Resample Landscape

Some MTT and TOM runs can be very computationally intensive and take hours to complete. The most effective way to shorten compute time is by reducing the number of landscape cells to be calculated.

NOTE: Prior to 2025, MTT and TOM runs the Resolution of Calculations could be modified in the "Run" Properties dialog. Beginning with the June, 2025 version of FlamMap, MTT and TOM runs will use the landscape resolution for the Resolution of Calculations and this cannot be modified. To easily change the landscape resolution use the Utilities > Resample Landscape command to create a new landscape.

Blank Resample Landscape dialog.

Click the ellipsis ellipsis button displays the Open File dialog to choose a file. button from the Source text box and select the origional landscape file from the "Open" dialog and click the Open button. The Source Resolution, Rows, and Columns are displayed for you.

Next click the ellipsis button displays the Open File dialog to choose a file. button from the Destination text box. In the "Save As" dialog navigate to a destination folder and type a file name in the File Name text box.

Type a new value in the Destination Resolution text box. Then the destination landscape  Rows and Columns are calculated for you. The "Resample" dialog should something like this,

Resample Landscape dialog completed and ready to Resample.

Click the Resample button.

Popup up dialog asking to confirm Resmaple.

Confirm the resampling by clicking Yes in the dialog presented.

The resampled landscape will be somewhat different depending on the heterogeneity of the source landscape setting as a larger cell size will cause some of the source landscape cells to be "skipped over" for the calculations. To easily compare landscapes quantitatively, right-click on the Entire Landscape (Default) or any New Analysis Area and select the Critique PDF or Critique HTML command to generate a report summarizing landscape characteristics with graphics.

Remember if you are using the Get Landscape utility for your landscape the resolution can be specified in the request.
